Our mission
Our mission and our wish are to give every abandoned child a family, and to guarantee that child’s right of having parents.
Child abandonment is the fourth humanitarian emergency in the XXI century:
- one can see people starving to death
- one can see people dying of illness
- one can see people dying in a war
One cannot see abandoned people dying inside.
Amici dei Bambini fights daily against the abandonment emergency.
Our fight.
Amici dei Bambini acts where abandonment is present: in orphanages, in care centres, on the streets, within the families.
The goals of our fight are:
Preventing abandonment
Children living in distressed families are often strongly at risk of abandonment. In order to protect their fundamental right to a happy childhood, Ai.Bi. supports the families of origin with international co-operation projects.
Suspending abandonment
When a child is abandoned, it is necessary to help him or her maintain a family relationship, through fostering.
Overcoming abandonment
A final inclusion into a family must be the solution for every abandoned child. In some cases it is possible, through international co-operation projects, to get the child back with their family of origin. However, when the family of origin is no longer there, or when it is not appropriate to reunite it with the child, it is necessary to help the child to find a new family, through national and international adoption.
Giving Support in Abandonment
There are many teen-agers who, even though they were abandoned when they were very young, have never found a new family. Ai.Bi., through international co-operation projects, helps them integrate into society.
Promoting a culture of nurturing
In order to promote a deep cultural change and a different approach to abandonment, Amici dei Bambini launched a project on the culture of nurturing.
